about

In the southern peninsula of India where we wake up every morning to the scent of fresh jasmine and freshly brewed filter coffee, ‘kye’ means hand. At Kye, I have fun piecing together memories, shapes, color and stories into small tangible functional accessories that will find a place in your heart.

Contrary to the rich culture of printed fabrics, it is the plain, handwoven understated fabric that inspires me the most, it’s warp and weft are my artist’s canvas. I grew up watching my grandmothers art adorning my walls, my mother at the sewing machine, and both of them sharing notes on knitting and embroidery. I would be lying if I said I grasped it all then, as I was rebellious and refused to learn any of it. All my skill was acquired through DIY projects! Yes, it’s true.

So take three years of design school, DIY and a zest to embrace and preserve skill and you have Kye. A gradual collaboration with like minded people and artists over the last year, i am happy to announce that Kye as now acquired the status of ‘we’ and we take extreme pleasure in bringing you the labour of ‘love’.
